ZeDaq.ai vs Excel for Tailors and Fashion Designers
29 October 2026 · 6 min read
Excel is a flexible spreadsheet that works well for simple lists and totals. ZeDaq.ai is a platform built around tailoring work, so clients, measurements, deposits, due dates and invoices live in one place.
ZeDaq.ai publishes this blog, so we've kept to facts from each product's own site.
Neither tool is right for everyone. Below is a plain look at what each does well, where each struggles, and how to choose.
Why do so many tailors start with Excel?
Because it is familiar and flexible. You open a sheet, type a client's name, add a few measurements and a price, and you are running. Google Sheets works the same way and is easy to share.
Excel does several things well:
- Simple client lists you can sort and filter.
- Totals and balances, using formulas you write yourself.
- A layout you shape exactly as you like.
- No new software to learn if you already use it.
For a small business with a handful of orders a month, that can be enough. If your needs are modest, there is no shame in staying with a spreadsheet.
Where does Excel start to struggle for tailoring?
Excel has nothing built for measurements, deposits, delivery reminders or client-facing measurement links. You can build all of these yourself, but you then have to maintain them too.
The trouble usually shows up as the business grows:
- Scattered records. Measurements sit in a sheet, deposits in a chat, and due dates in a paper notebook.
- Wide, fragile sheets. One column per measurement gets awkward fast, and one wrong paste can damage a client's record.
- No nudges. A sheet will not remind you that a wedding order is due on Friday unless you set that up.
- Invoices by hand. You copy figures into a separate document, add your logo and bank details, then send it.
- Measurements still need collecting. A spreadsheet stores numbers but does not help you take them.
Many tailors and designers in the UK, Nigeria and elsewhere run their business across WhatsApp chats, Excel sheets and paper notebooks. Details end up in three places, and nobody has the full picture.
What does ZeDaq.ai do differently?
Every ZeDaq.ai subscription includes tools for tailors and made-to-measure businesses. They are available in the web dashboard and the mobile app.
- Client CRM: contact details, delivery address and fit preferences.
- Orders with deposits: track what was paid and what is still owed.
- Delivery calendar: due dates with automatic reminders.
- Invoicing: your logo and bank details, sent by email or WhatsApp.
- Measurement capture: auto-capture, voice-guided posing, or manual entry.
Auto-capture uses a front photo and a side photo, finds 33 skeletal points, and is calibrated with a sheet of A4 paper. You can also send a measurement link that the client opens on their own phone. Clients install no app.
If you have years of paper measurement books, you can photograph a page. ZeDaq.ai reads the client's details and measurements into a digital profile.
You can still message clients on WhatsApp. ZeDaq.ai is the record behind the conversation, not a replacement for it. It is also a technology platform only. It does not make, sell or ship clothes.
How do ZeDaq.ai and Excel compare side by side?
| Task | Excel or Google Sheets | ZeDaq.ai |
|---|---|---|
| Client details | Columns you design | Client CRM with address and fit preferences |
| Storing measurements | Cells you lay out yourself | Digital client profiles |
| Taking measurements | Manual entry only | Auto-capture, voice-guided posing, manual entry, or a link to the client's phone |
| Old paper books | Retype by hand | Photograph a page to create a profile |
| Deposits and balances | Formulas you build | Orders with deposits |
| Due dates | A calendar you build and check | Delivery calendar with automatic reminders |
| Invoices | Separate document | Invoices with your logo and bank details, by email or WhatsApp |
| Flexibility | Very high | Built around tailoring workflows |
| Setup effort | You design and maintain it | Ready to use |
Excel wins on freedom. ZeDaq.ai wins on having tailoring tasks already built in.
What about WhatsApp Business, Notion, Airtable or a general CRM?
Each is worth knowing about, and each has a clear job.
WhatsApp Business is Meta's free app for small businesses. It offers a business profile, product catalogue, chat labels, quick replies and greeting or away messages. It is excellent for talking to clients. It is a messaging tool, though, not a record of measurements, orders and payments.
Notion and Airtable are build-it-yourself workspaces and databases. They are very flexible, and a patient person can build a tidy tailoring system in them. You design and maintain your own tables, forms and reminders.
HubSpot and Zoho CRM are general-purpose CRMs built around sales pipelines, contacts and deals, and both have free tiers. They are not designed around garment measurements, fittings, deposits or tailoring orders, so you would need to customise them.
Dedicated tailor apps on the app stores, such as Darzee and Tailo360, typically cover customer measurements, orders and payment tracking. Compare their listings, and ZeDaq.ai's, against your own checklist.
Please check each product's own site for current details, features and pricing.
Which should you choose?
Stay with Excel or Google Sheets if:
- You take only a few orders a month.
- You enjoy building and adjusting your own sheets.
- Your current system never misses a due date or a deposit.
Consider ZeDaq.ai if:
- Measurements, deposits and due dates live in different places.
- You want reminders without building them.
- You want clients to submit measurements from their own phone.
- You have paper measurement books you want to digitise.
- You send invoices often and want them to carry your logo and bank details.
Not sure? Test with real work. Pick five current clients and ask a few questions. Can you find each client's measurements in under a minute? Do you know every deposit balance? Do you know what is due next week?
If a spreadsheet answers all three easily, keep it. If not, try a purpose-built tool alongside it. ZeDaq.ai has a free plan and a 3-day free trial with no card required. Paid plans differ by monthly try-ons, measurements and invoices, so see the pricing page for current details.
Is there anything for online fashion retailers too?
Yes. ZeDaq.ai also offers an API and embeddable widget for online fashion retailers. It adds AI Virtual Try-On and body sizing to product pages. The shopper uploads one photo and enters their height inside the store's own product page, with no account or sign-in. Their measurements are matched against the store's size chart to recommend a size.
It is available on the Shopify App Store. On other sites, you paste one script tag into the product page template. WooCommerce, Magento and custom stores can integrate through the REST API.
If you sell made-to-measure pieces online and also run a workshop, you can use both sides. To see the tailor tools, visit the ZeDaq.ai tailors page.
FAQs
Can I keep using Excel and ZeDaq.ai together?
Yes. Many people test a new tool while their spreadsheet keeps running. Move a few clients across first, then decide whether to switch fully.
Do my clients need to install an app to give measurements?
No. You can send a measurement link that the client opens on their own phone. You can also take the measurements yourself or enter them by hand.
Can I bring my paper measurement book into ZeDaq.ai?
